Pete Jacobs, the 2012 champion and threetime winner of Cobra Iroman 70.3 is also looking to regain the glory.
Tim Reed, a Saucony athlete, is also among the top contenders having won the 70.3 Auckland and Century Tuna Philippines.
The womens will likely be dominated by Caroline Steffen of Switzerland, who is looking for four-peat in this event.
The men’s division is expected to go down the wire with the country’s top 70.3 riders on the fray.
Defending champion August Benedicto who celebrates his birthday this month is set to bring his full arsenal to get the back-to-back title.
Banjo Norte of Alaska Tri-Aspire and hails from Cagayan de Oro City was disqulified last year for drafting violations. But this incident last year will only make the 2013 champion Norte more motivated to retain the crown this year.
Cebuano Kristiane Lim who joined the Alaska Tri Aspire this year will carry the flag of the Queen City of the South together with last year’s second placer John Philip Duenas.
RP team member John Chicano, of Team Saucony, who usally races the olympic and standard distances will try his luck in the half-ironman distance. The young Chicano will be among the contenders.
The former pro Monica Torres has joined the Filipino elite this year. Her stint in the pro makes her the triathlete to bet.
Defending champion Joyette Jopson will be gunning for a repeat.Maria Hodges of Team Omega Tri was the second placer last year. With her races abroad this year, she is set for another podium finish.
Cebuanas Louie Villacin and Cianyl Gonzalez are also contenders along with Alaska Tri Aspire Leslie Guerrero.
The Cobra Ironman 70.3 Cebu race will feature 1.9k swim, 90k bike and 21k run.
