[#CheapTrails] Running on Highland of Talisay, Negros Occidental: The Haciendera Feels

This post is part of #CheapTrails series. More #CheapTrails stories here >>.

Last May 2015, my family went on an inter-island road trip in Western Visayas, Philippines. We started in Cebu then cross to Negros Occidental to Panay and back. In every town / city that we made an overnight stop, I tried to sneak in a quick run. IMG_1791 Running, for me, is always the best way to explore and experience a new place.

Running in Iloilo: Madge-ness

Our first overnight stop of this 10-day road trip was in Cabatangan, Talisay City, Negros Occidental. It’s popular destination is the Campuestohan Highland Resort. My target for a quick run was Mt. Makawili which serves as beautiful backdrop of the Campuestohan Highland Resort. That mountain on Mickey Mouse’ finger tip is Mt. Makawili.

(Negros Occidental seems to have the first Disneyland in Philippines.) IMG_1864 Unfortunately, I need to get permission before I could proceed. But it’s great to know that it’s a protected area. IMG_1924 I backtracked, and found a fork. As they say that when in doubt, pick the road less traveled.IMG_1960 I then found myself in the middle of farm after farm of gaming fowls. No, it was not smelly. It was breath-taking. IMG_1933 IMG_1935 I felt I was trespassing but the view was too beautiful to resist. It has Mt. Kanlaon as a view in the distance (correct me if I were wrong.), and the unlimited of greenery on both sides. I hope to peak it one day. =)

Gazing through the vastness of farms in Negros Occidental, I wonder if it was how it felt to be an “haciendera.” You have an instant trail running ground to scratch the etch for running.

Thank you, the highlands of Talisay City, Negros Occidental, for making me feel an “haciendera” for a moment.

For breakfast, you can then check the restaurant of Campuestohan Highland Resort. They open at 7am. Entrance is P150. Accommodation is also available, which ranges from P2500 – 5000. Contact number: 0917 300 5007.
