ADU (Adik -ug Dagan University) is an ultramarathon race series, conceptualized & organized by CUC Founder / President Tony Galon. The series started last May, 2014 with 100KM for Leg 1 (Primary), 100Miles for Leg 2 (Admittance), and the final Leg 3 is 260KM (Masteral) which is going to happen this May 1-3, 2015.
The Masteral Class will have a round south Cebu tour on foot starting at Minglanilla to southwest of Cebu, to Santander (tip of Cebu), then back to Minglanilla via southeast of Cebu.
This is a kind of footrace that it’s hard to know and understand the reason of why runners do it. So let’s just get to know the faces of these brave souls in case we will meet them along the way.
Presenting the probable Top Graduates of this very tough course.
Most Punctual:
Enrique Tapere Jr. for being the earliest student to enroll in the masteral class.
For the Female Category, there are only 2 candidates:
Rhoda Caballero-Oporto (Psycho Inday Runner/ Infinitea/ Indie / ARC). Having finished the first 280KM-distance race 2 years ago, she’s going to be a runaway winner for this game. It’s a road race and long-distance which is definitely her masteral.
Hedda Riola (Team Kapwa, Davao). This girl cannot be underestimated though because she’s got a 100-mile race podium finish under her belt.
For the Male Category, our Top 3 Candidates are:
Bayani Alvarez (Spectrum Runners). The “Manny Pacquiao” of ultramarathon. Four years ago, he championed the first 100KM distance race to happen in Cebu, and has been a consisten top finisher of various ultramarathons. Does he still have the groove? (Read on our archived story of this runner, “Bayani Alvarez’ No-Frills” >>.)
Brian Guillen (ADR (AnyDayRunners)/ K1 Ultra Team). He has a 280KM-distance ultramarathon championship belt, and he can easily be the sure-champion of this masteral class…
Edwin Colina (K1 Ultramarathon Team). We have not heard this guy getting a championship medal in any ultramarathon race yet, but he’s consistently strong finisher. This might be his race.
Barefoot Record
Kit Quiseo & Villy Ponferrada. Kit has done a lot of 100K and 100mile races in barefoot, as well as Villy. Kit attempted running barefoot last SN280, but somehow failed when he had to resort wearing slippers in the last stretch of the race. Can he and Villy pull it off this time all the way to the finish line? Either way, Kit is probably the holder to have covered the longest distance race in barefoot.
Of course, there are always the jocks of the classes. And, this masteral class seems to be filled with them. But note that most of them are for-your-eyes only. =)
Ian Suico Santos (Dagan Caritas). This guy can make hammock looks so charming.
Rinen Dela Cerna (Team Davao Runners). He can make race markers extra inspirational.
Peri Pevida (ADR). The head-turner face.
Leo Maranon (Team Davao Runners).
Adrian Sabanpan Jr. (Dagan Caritas). The icon.
Jovahn Ybanez (Dagan Caritas)
And, the rest of the good men of the masteral class.
Thailand represent:
Bryan Kho.
Leyte represent:
Arthur Ryan Dolina (Tenderfoot Organization of Enthusiastic Striders(T.O.E.S)).
