Aaron Kisler Papas. Cebu Trail Blazers represent in the upcoming Enduro Pilipinas – 4th Leg of the National Series this Nov. 16, 2014 at Ormoc City, Leyte! This guy is not only a rider, but also an CX event organizer. He is one of the organizers behind the successful San Fernando XC Challenge 2014 last May 10, 2014. Let’s get to know more about this guy with a very secret “secret training” in the following short Q&A.

But first let him take a selfie:

Serial number (kind of bike):

Full Suspension All-Mountain bike (Marin Bikes Mount Vision XM pro)

Name of your team, and brief history:

Cebutrailblazers. Most in our group are into not that much of history but im bringing this team coz i have several friends here and most of them does Enduro riding style or simply trail riding.

How long have you been biking? How did you get into biking?

I think almost everyone got into biking when they were kids, and fortunately, I’m of those kids. 🙂

Well, technically, I started serious biking 3 years ago. I started really late because bicycle nowadays would cost you a fortune (specially with suspension bikes).

I got my first decent bike which was a hardtail back in 2010, in which I did a lot of XC (cross country) rides since I got bored of riding on paved roads. Then, I shifted to full suspension bikes, which I had a couple of them.

And, I fell inlove with suspension bikes, which is a perfect match for single tracks – my riding style. 🙂

Will the Enduro Ormoc be your first mountain bike race? If not, how long have you been doing mountain bike racing?

Enduro Ormoc? It’s not going to be my first race. It will be my 3rd time joining this event. My first was Cebu “Enduro ta Bai” last year.

My 2nd was in Biliran Island, which was epic.

The Enduro Pilipinas – 4th Leg of the National Series in Ormoc will be my 3rd. I’m hoping for better results. I mean, I always aim to break my personal record in every enduro event I get the chance to join. And, so far I think that I’m doing good and improving.

How do you train for it?

I have nothing really special training strategy. I just do the usual stuff: such as doing a little XC rides with my AM (full-suspension bike) and also a little trail riding twice a week. Basically, I do a little bit of everything; it’s what works for me.

And, also I do a little “secret training.” I call it secret training when I’m not training. haha

Where are your playgrounds? The most challenging trail in your place can recommend? Your favorite?

Playgrounds? Hhhmmm… A lot! My hometown San Fernando, Cebu has also a lot to offer (really good trails). In fact we organized a Crosscountry race early this year. (Check San Fernando XC Challenge 2014 female champ’s race story “First of Summer” >>.)

Cebu City also a lot. The usual go-to of riders are Tap-tap, Sibugay, Kan-irag, and more.

Since we just move here in Consolacion, Cebu, my go-to trails now are Talamban and Consolacion areas, to the well-known Xterra tracks in Liloan, Cebu. Lhuillier properties in Talamban has also has a lot to offer for Enduro training (a little bit of everything, basically).

Now, to that all important bike porn question – what’s your bike setup?

My bike setup now?
MARIN mount vision Xm pro
fox float fork 140mm travel
fox float 140mm rear shox
easton haven wheels
2.3 nevegal tires
easton haven cockpit
dropper post
1×10 SRAM X9 groupset
avid brakeset

🙂

If there’d be an apocalypse, and you can only save one bike, which among your bikes will you save?

…not a lot to choose from. Of course, I will save my one and only bike. 🙂
