The Color Run Argao (Sept. 27, 2014)
Seasoned and upcoming triathletes have something to look forward to this coming September 21, 2014 as Parklane International Hotel brings Hunat Sugbu Tri Goes to Argao. This will be the third time that Hunat Sugbu is hosting a triathlon event, the first one being in Oslob and the second one in Bantayan. This writer even had the chance to join the first ever Hunat Sugbu Tri in Oslob. It was a really great event albeit the technical problems in terms of finisher’s time and the number of loop each athlete had to go through. The number of loops was confusing at some point but this is something the athletes don’t have experience as promised by Parklane International Hotel’s General Manager Cenelyn Manguilimotan. The Argao leg promises to be an even greater and well organized event having learned from the previous triathlons that Parklane has organized. They even tapped veteran race director, Joel Baring, of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts to be in charged with the race technicalities. Even the press conference held last July 15, 2014 was attended by, Argao Mayor Honorable Edsel Galeos, that in itself shows how hands on everyone is for the event.
What are the categories and where do I register?
The race will have three categories. The standard which has a 1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run. The Sprint Distance with a 750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run. And the relay that has the standard distance. The good thing with this leg is that the relay is broken down into three: all male, all female, and the mixed category. Both standard and sprint have a registration fee of 2,500. And the relay is at 2,300 for each participant.
Registration is ongoing at Parklane Hotel and online via www.hunatsugbu.com. Other registration sites like Cebu City Sports Complex, Runnr Ayala and Parkmall will be available soon.
What’s in it for me?
Your registration fee is inclusive of the following : race kit, personalized finisher’s t-shirt, visor, swim cap, race bib holder, bike stickers, finisher’s medal that’s shaped like a baterol and a customized one at that! Yep, your name’s going to be engraved on the medal. Gold is for the standard, silver for sprint, and bronze for the relay finishers.
Why not? Argao is more than just torta and sikwate. It has a lot to offer and this event wants to promote a different Argao, something you’ve never experienced before. There’s going to be a product expo that promotes their local products to guests. You’re even transported back in time just being in the town center or Cabisera de Argao. It’s already given as to how scenic the bike and run route is going to be. This is something people really look forward to. Resorts, home-stays, and the likes will be available. Th Hunat Sugbu Team promises to post possible places where athletes and their families can stay for the weekend.
What else can I do in Argao?
A LOT. If Oslob boasts of swimming with the whale sharks or Tumalog Falls, well, you can go trekking in Argao. River trek in Usmad River, spelunking, cliff jump in Bugasok Falls. You can do that in Argao. Just contact their local tourism office. Just a tip though, make sure you’ve already agreeed with the price as far as guides and environmental fee is concerned.
This is going to be an awesome event. Promise!
