We run for different reasons. I think most of my long-time running friends may have a list of “nonsense” or sometimes “no-reason” at all for running but they won’t tell people about about. Instead they will tell you that they runs for health reasons, which I think that it’s not the entire truth. It’s just their easy excuse of explaining their crazy running addiction.

So Soy asked me if I could be a featured runner of TCM. And, I said no problem, I will do the feature of myself.

SO WHY WILL I RUN TALISAY CITY MARATHON?

It was in Kawasan Falls Marathon 2012 (probably my 2nd full-marathon), after the heartache hill, I felt drowsy and in total pain because of an ITBS injury that showed up since 10KM but I won’t give up because it was a birthday run; I was really hungry and thirsty, and I had no money because I spent all of them already on red bull to drive away the ITBS pain.

I was on the verge of pawning my GPS timer to a “sari-sari” store for a sparkle drink, when thankfully, a man handed me a bread and went out to buy a coke for me! I never got his name, but all I could remember was the TCRC printed on his shirt.

It was not the first time I actually met him. He’s quite constant in local races (trail or road), which I also happened to join. But I never got his name, not until we got a photo of him during the CCM 2013. =) (The below photo was probably taken by Fred Baa.)

From then on, TCRC (Talisay City Runners Club) has always been one of those groups that I looked up to. Having them around in races, especially the ultramarathons, would somehow give you a comfort that you’re with a group of supportive people.

So yes, I’m running for Talisay City Marathon because of TCRC’s Michael dela Serna. I think it’s enough of a good reason. It’s a cheers to the running community who are full of people like him.

Oh, and the BLING! =)

“Yeah know, I don’t really run for medals. I run for glory…” except when it’s Ervin Limpag’s designed medals! =)

Aside from being an artist, Ervin is also a runner of Team Parklane. So there’s always that runner’s “care” added to his designs. =) Read “That Poster Boy for Running: Ervin Limpag,” our story of him here >>.

TCM will also be a good reminder that “Real life is not hard enough.”

The organizers are experienced long-distance runners, and they definitely know how to make the race route a worthwhile one. There is an ample elevation, and I cannot just say NO to a challenge. A challenge that will remind me that “any thing worthwhile is not easy.”

(“Real life is not hard enough” (quoted from a friend Paolo Lim) meant for me that — despite of the real-life struggles and problems — at the end of the day, we are still luckier. Lucky to be out there running.)

And, I also long to see a different view of Talisay City.

The route of Talisay City Marathon will take us to the hilly / mountain areas of Talisay City, which we do not get to see everyday so it’s something I look forward to soak in.

Looking at your back for your competition or your past is not advisable, except to appreciate the view, and…
