Super typhoon Yolanda decimated the City of Tacloban and its neighboring municipalities. Many believed it will take a lot of efforts and money to rebuild these places. But one thing time and money cannot buy is the human capacity to Hope and rise up once again. And this is exactly what the 10 lovely representatives of the Tacloban City’s premier running club the TOES (Tenderfoot Organization of Enthusiastic Striders) are aiming to send out for the 2014 edition of the All Women Ultra Marathon (AWUM).
Coming off from their successful CCM 2014 campaign last January, the ladies hope to ride the momentum going into the AWUM on March 8-9th. These girls have been training in the cold and zero visibility early mornings in Tacloban. Despite the lack of electricity they persevered to train even harder. On weekends they have a group LSDs together with the boys to combine theirs training on endurance and strength.
The TOES ladies will be lead by veteran ultra runner Ms. Grace De Ocampo. From a competitive standpoint, runners should watch out for Ms. Menchie Kitane to attempt a podium finish.
Their message is simple – to never lose Hope. “Never let any obstacles hinder you from running. Run despite all the adversities.” says DiOcampo. “In our case, since there’s no power yet, we run in the darkest of streets. But hey, we persevered!”
All ten TOES represents is gearing up to finish strong and injury free ultra extraganza comes raceday. Of the ten, 5 are already ultra marathoners. And for their outfits, they will be wearing a top secret custom designed uniform from Three of Me!
The T.O.E.S. RUNNERS will have their hydration station located at Km 22, Uratex Foam bldg., Plaridel St., Paknaan, Mandaue City.
