Philippine Red Cross – Lapu-lapu / Cordova Chapter (like their page here >>) started in 2008. They organized their first fun run for a cause in 2011 with short distance of 5k. In 2012, they created a half-marathon. Then this year 2013, PRC Lapu-lapu / Cordova Chapter is making a bold move by creating a marathon event, Red Cross 143 Marathon for Humanity (Nov. 10, 2013) (details here >>). Probably, they are the first PRC chapter who is able to organize a marathon event.
It can be a wonder as to how an organization, mostly run by volunteers, is able to create such a big event.
We found the answer at the press conference of Red Cross 143 Marathon for Humanity (Nov. 10, 2013), earlier at the Be Resorts (one of the sponsors). The presscon was like attending a tribes’ council meeting with representatives both from private and public sectors in full force.

It was heartwarming to see how this little island of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu (Cordova part of island), have such a big supportive community. Following are what the different leaders / groups have to say about the Red Cross 143 Marathon for Humanity (Nov. 10, 2013. More details here >>):
Dir. Teddy Ybanez on podium, Race Executive Committee Chairman & City Administrator of Lapulapu
According to Dir. Teddy Ybanez that the City of Lapu-lapu officially made the 2nd weekend of November slotted for the Red Cross 143 Marathon for Humanity. It’s going to be an official annual event of the City, as part of fiesta celebration of their Patron Saint Virgin Rule.
So you can now reserve every 2nd weekend of November for Red Cross 143 Marathon for Humanity.
Ruth Jumao-as, Social Studies DepEd Supervisor
Ruth Jumao-as, a DepEd Supervisor, said, “What’s life without service?”
DepEd was one of the group which the PRC tapped to ask for support in their early years of fun run. Though hesitant at first, but seeing how showing support to the Red Cross can be a good real-life example to their students, DepEd has been a main supported of Red Cross 143.
Rose, of BOD of PRC Lapu-lapu / Cordova chapter and representative of the MEPZ, showed that Red Cross has full support from the MEPZ association by postponing their own fun run which coincides with the Red Cross Marathon.
Joel Juarez of Coco Running, has been the race technical director since Red Cross Lapu-lapu / Cordova chapter started their fun run for a cause.

Red Cross 143 Marathon for Humanity (Nov. 10, 2013) showed to us that the spirit of volunteerism is still very strong in us.
On behalf of the PRC Lapu-lapu / Cordova chapter, as our little support to them and for their cause, we’re inviting you to join the Red Cross 143 Marathon for Humanity (Nov. 10, 2013. They also have a group promo, 10 + 1 (1 free for 10 registrations.) Cash prizes will be awarded to top placers of 42K / 21K / 6K.
