Related article: Ways to Share Story / Photos in aktib.ph It’s been 6 months since the story feature of aktib.ph was rolled out. It’s quite a rough feature feature, and so we would like to thank all those who shared their story. Sometimes, we get asked why they need to share their stories as runners? We always thought that
the real race happens inside the mind of a runner / athlete. And, those stories behind the scenes touch most. Following are quotes from runners writers about running and stories:
“I guess in writing about doing the things I love, about following my heart and setting my own course in life, I somehow gave others permission to do the same.” – Dean Karnazes
“For all these reasons, running contains more humanity than any other sport, in every sense of the word–more people, more built-in joy and anguish, more depth, more soul. Like twin strands of DNA, running and story telling are connected on a human, elemental level. Any run can be viewed as its own private drama with a beginning, a middle, and an end. For the vast of majority of us, there is no stadium or crowd of cheering spectators. We generate our own progress according to our own definition of success.” – David Willey, Going Long
“If the truth of our running is that in our ‘moving’ we find ourselves, then running is the gift that allows us to know ourselves deeper.” – Ultra Distance Runner Lizzy Hawker
Then, telling running stories is a way of sharing that gift. Following are stories that top* of each month from January to June: (For all the stories shared in aktib.ph, feel free to browse them here >>.) January Title: “WHEN YOUR LEGS CAN’T RUN ANYMORE, RUN WITH YOUR HEART”.(1ST 42K SUB4) Shared by: JEZEREL BAGZ
“… I am not supposed to run a 42k since I’m just new and too young for this category. But there’s nothing I can do since I already registered before they knew about it. So I said to myself that I will finish the race watever it takes. Only unconscious and cramps can stop me. As long as I can run, I will finish it.”

“At the last 300meters I cannot stop my emotion as tears were about to fall from my eyes in amazement that I was able to finish the race and conquer the skyway even with what had happened.”

“While on my last 2KM of the race, I nearly broke into tears. That’s because of the sun block. Nothing else. You should never use sun block cause it irritates your eyes. Sun block aside, it was really gruesome. I never wanted to quit the race. The thought never occurred to me. My body’s exhausted but my will isn’t. I was determined to finish. It would take more than a sledgehammer to break my spirit.”

“My left knee is so bad that it needed an operation years before so i never run even for 5kms without a knee support. In Cebuano, ‘kagumkum na ko ug tuhod’! So i had to decide. Either to abandon the race or to go on without the knee support. So i said to myself this is not the time to quit and continued the race…”

“The mind is a very powerful thing and itʼs generally the only thing that stands between you and something incredible”…You can always do more than you think you can…. and yes We did it!…

“I now wanted to run not just to lose weight but for the love of it. :)”
