Runnroo: 1st All-Women Ultramarathon

by Armie Garde

When Joseph, Paolo, Jean, Odina and I started running together last year, none of us thought of anything else but finish the tour around Cebu island on foot. At some point we hoped to drag more people to run-tour with us so we posted invitations. As Runnroo, we only dreamed of running more miles and conquering more races ‘together’ for FUN, among other awesome reasons. We are only seven months old (premature) as a group and never had we thought of becoming part of history this early…but we just made history. 🙂

Our members took part in the successful staging of the 1st All-Women Ultramarathon in the Philippines, which was held in Cebu last March 10, 2012. It was the first beyond 42-kilometer race exclusively for women in the Philippines, but some are also saying it was the first of its kind in the world.

Three of us were among the 181 women who signed up for the race, and the rest of our members were among those who skipped sleep just to cheer the runners and man the different water and food stations at every 5-kilometer along the 50-kilometer route.

Rose, Odina and I finished, and our very supportive fellows were there to witness it.

Then I realized: Running isn’t just about distance, pace, time and route. It’s not just about the finisher’s shirt and medal. It’s not just about the lessons and strength you gain after the run. Running is also about people: these amazing supportive folks:

We call our group and our group members Runnroo. Go figure. :)

The 1st All-Women Ultramarathon is our warm up. Surely, more races to run and support are coming! Ayt, Runnroo?

Love,
Warat Runner

P.S. Thank you and congratulations, Runnroo!
